Introduction to tarot

Tarot cards

Tarot cards are one of the best tools that you can use. They are accurate and have an uncanny ability to help you feel less uncertain.

Which is something we need in these uncertain times. Remember a tarot card spread is never wrong. You simply just didn’t interpret it correctly. It is a deeply personal experience only you can truly know! That is why I have never been a fan of getting other people to do a reading.

You should do the reading yourself or, more importantly, do the interpretation.

Picking a tarot deck:

Pick a tarot deck that you like, May seem obvious but it is true. I recommend getting a deck that you intuitively feel connected to. Perhaps you like the illustrations or theme. The important thing is that you feel a certain connection to it.

Once you have done that you should familiarise yourself with the basics of symbolism in the cards and a few misconceptions.

Some people may tell you that the card can mean anything you want to and to a certain extent that is true. But there are key archetypes and elements that carry significance. I am not saying that it is not impossible for you to do a reading without knowing the significance. However you will find your experience greatly enhanced by knowing at least the basics.

Now that you have a basic grasp of the symbolism let’s now take a look at the spread!

Learning the spread

To put it simply, if the tarot cards are how you construct your answer then the spread is how you frame the question. There are many things you can do. The most basic being the three cards “past, present, future” or “ goal, obstacle, outcome”.

Another great way of exploring the cards is to use your intuition and visualise your question and draw. If the card is still not clear to you you can always draw another card to elaborate.

A word on negative cards

Don’t be scared of your results if you get a “bad card” take the time to meditate and digest your card and see how it can be framed in a productive fashion and I don’t mean simply force it into a positive context, I mean  see how you can use this new knowledge and how you should plan accordingly. That is the beauty of esoteric knowledge it allows us to look deep

Within ourselves and to change, so we can make a brighter tomorrow.
